Michelle Obama Praised, Melania Trump Humiliated in Blockbuster New Book

A popular new book attempts to humiliate First Lady Melania Trump while valorizing former First LadyMichelle Obama. The book, “Melania & Michelle: First Ladies in a New Era” by Tammy R. Vigil, attempts to portray itself as being a fair, bipartisan assessment of both women–but clearly is not.

As the New York Post pointed out in an oped: “It thinly veils its criticism of one and its admiration of the other. No prizes for guessing who’s who. Vigil, a Boston academic, notes that Melania ‘ranks among the least liked of all modern first ladies, [and her] professional life prepared her to serve more as a visual adornment.’ The afterword belatedly acknowledges that ‘pitting the two women against one another is a troublesome (though common) practice.’ But, hey, if it damages the Trumps, go for it.”

The main point of the book was to portray Mrs. Obama as a smart, high-powered attorney who was an asset to Barack Obama–while portraying Mrs. Trump as a top model who offers nothing of substance to Donald Trump.

Vigil complains that Melania is “aloof” with the media; it seems clear, however, that her attitude towards the press may have something to do with the constant personal attacks she endures. The current First Lady has been smeared for everything from her clothing choices, to her White House Christmas decorations.

From the New York Post: “Whatever you think of her husband, you can’t say she has behaved with anything but dignity in her role, despite ugly provocations, which include attacks on her young son, Barron.. … [But] there are no boundaries to bullying at all. Her Christmas decorations have been pilloried, her accent mocked. She has been depicted as a victim of domestic abuse.”

The press finds anything to smear Melania. Last week, Newsweek claimed Trump had called her to his side like a dog, with three taps on his thigh–the implication being that she’s too dumb to be treated like a normal human being, let alone his wife.

Melania was right when she referred to herself as one of the “most bullied people in the world” during a CNN interview.

It seems as though the First Lady just can’t do anything right. Even though she has good taste and style, even her clothing choices are regularly ripped apart. Anna Wintour, the editor of Vogue, issued a put-down of Melania–when asked a question about the current First Lady, Wintour dismissed her and instead praised Michelle Obama’s style.

The New York Post oped continued: “It doesn’t seem to occur to Melania’s critics that, rather than being a docile Stepford wife, she might actually share her husband’s political worldview and encourage his policy positions on such topics as illegal immigration. But, unlike Hillary Clinton, whose aggressive foray into health care policy when she was first lady caused considerable political fallout for her husband, Melania doesn’t flaunt her influence.”

Melania does not attempt overreach when it comes to her own influence in the White House. She appears to understand that her role is to support her husband but not make policy; she is not the person voters cast their ballots for. In any case, she deserves much more respect than she currently receives.
