Shep Smith Snaps, Goes on Anti-Trump Rant on Fox News

Shep Smith isn’t exactly known to be one of President Trump’s biggest fans–but he usually doesn’t express much of an opinion either way. This week, however, the Fox News anchor broke from his restrained stance to make some flagrantly anti-Trump remarks.
On his show, Smith called for his viewers to read the full report issued by Special Counsel Robert Mueller and stated that despite what President Trump says he was not exonerated of obstruction.
The anchor said, “Remember, in his 400-plus page report — that everyone in America should read, everyone — Robert Mueller laid out 10 instances of apparent obstruction of justice, criminal obstruction of justice, potentially, by President Trump. The special counsel did not exonerate the president. They said if they could’ve, they would’ve, but they couldn’t, so they didn’t.”
He continued, “Mueller explained that if he and his team had confidence that the president did not commit obstruction, they would have said so. He also said that under Justice Department guidelines, charging the president with a crime was never an option to him. He said the Constitution requires another process.”
Not surprisingly, Smith got praise from many leftists on Twitter–even though the core viewership of Fox News often expresses annoyance with Smith’s anti-Trump views.
Smith has made a string of negative comments regarding the president over the last year. Smith denounced the presidents accusations of the Obama Administration spying on his campaign; he also blasted the president for calling the Mueller investigation a “witch hunt.”
Not surprisingly, Trump isn’t a fan of Smith. On Twitter, he called Smith the “lowest rated anchor” who “should be working” at CNN.
Despite Fox News viewers having a negative view of Shep Smith, the network still continues to dominate in cable rankings. MSNBC has also risen in the rankings since the election of Trump, but haven’t been able to beat out Fox’s ratings. Meanwhile, CNN has seen its ratings dramatically decline over the last five years.
There’s little doubt that the upcoming presidential election will be a boon to all cable networks, Fox News included. Even though the DNC has said Fox News will not be allowed to host any Democratic primary debates, the network has already hosted several Democratic candidates–including Bernie Sanders–for town halls. It will certainly be interesting to see if Fox decides to promote commentators who are critical of Trump or if it decides to give increasing airtime to promoters of the president like Sean Hannity.
